Erik Fritiof Billquist (5 May 1901 – 21 April 1972) was a prolific Swedish film actor whose career spanned nearly four decades in the golden age of Scandinavian cinema. Born in Malmö, Sweden, Billquist became one of the recognizable character actors of his era, appearing in more than 60 films between 1931 and 1969. His career began during the early sound film era with Tired Theodore in 1931, and he quickly established himself as a versatile performer capable of taking on a wide range of roles, from comedic characters to more serious dramatic parts. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Billquist appeared in numerous Swedish productions, including International Match (1932), South of the Highway (1936), and Raggen (1936), showcasing his ability to adapt to various genres that defined the Swedish film industry at the time. His work during the World War II era included films such as Comrades in Uniform (1938), Circus (1939), Bashful Anton (1940), and Men of the Navy (1943), reflecting the patriotic and morale-boosting themes prevalent in Scandinavian cinema during the conflict. In the postwar period, Billquist continued his prolific output with titles like The Happy Tailor (1945), Private Karlsson on Leave (1947), A Swedish Tiger (1948), and Bohus Battalion (1949), cementing his reputation as a reliable supporting player in Swedish features. His later career included notable films such as Dance, My Doll (1953), Hidden in the Fog (1953), My Passionate Longing (1956), and More Than a Match for the Navy (1958), demonstrating his longevity in an industry that was rapidly changing. Billquist was married to Ulla Billquist from 1926 until their divorce in 1934, and the couple had a daughter, Åsa Billquist-Roussel.
