Franz Friedrich Nicklisch (8 March 1906 – 6 December 1975) was a distinguished German actor whose career spanned more than four decades in the entertainment industry. Born in Wernigerode, a picturesque town in the German Empire, Nicklisch grew up during a tumultuous period in German history that would shape much of his future work on screen. He began his acting career in 1931, during the early years of sound cinema, and went on to appear in over 50 films and television shows throughout his professional life, demonstrating remarkable versatility and longevity in the industry. His filmography includes notable titles such as Storms of Passion (1932), Inge and the Millions (1933), The Black Whale (1934), and Between Two Hearts (1934), all of which helped establish him as a recognizable presence in German cinema during the 1930s. Nicklisch continued working through the war years, with films like Between Heaven and Earth (1942), and later transitioned into the post-war German film industry, appearing in productions such as Five Suspects (1950). Among his most celebrated performances was his role in Joan of Arc (1935), which showcased his ability to engage with historical and dramatic material. He also appeared in Under Blazing Heavens (1936), The Unsuspecting Angel (1936), The Girl with a Good Reputation (1938), Dance on the Volcano (1938), and In the Name of the People (1939), further cementing his reputation as a dependable and talented actor. Nicklisch passed away on 6 December 1975 in West Berlin, West Germany, at the age of 69, leaving behind a substantial body of work that contributed significantly to German cinematic history. He was laid to rest at the Waldfriedhof Zehlendorf, a renowned cemetery in Berlin, where he rests beside his brother, Hans Nicklisch, who was also closely connected to the cultural life of the city.
