Engin Akyürek (born 12 October 1981 in Ankara, Turkey) is a prominent Turkish actor, author and screenwriter whose career has spanned more than a decade and a half. He graduated from the Department of History at Ankara University in 2002 and, despite having no formal training in drama, entered the entertainment world by winning the televised competition Türkiye’nin Yıldızları in 2004, a breakthrough that earned him a supporting role in the popular series Yabancı Damat. His first leading appearance came with the Kanal D drama Bir Bulut Olsam (2009), where his portrayal of the troubled Mustafa Bulut attracted critical attention and established him as a capable leading man. Akyürek then cemented his reputation with the socially charged series Fatmagül'ün Suçu Ne? (2010‑2012), playing the compassionate lawyer Kerim Ilgaz alongside Beren Saat, a fellow contestant from his early competition days. In 2014 he headlined the internationally acclaimed thriller Kara Para Aşk, delivering a nuanced performance as Ömer Demir that earned him the Best Actor prize at the Seoul International Drama Awards and a nomination for the International Emmy Awards. Beyond television, he has appeared in several films, beginning with Zeki Demirkubuz’s Kader (2006) and later starring in Bi Küçük Eylül Meselesi (2014) and the Çağan Irmak drama Çocuklar Sana Emanet (2018). Akyürek’s recent work includes the series Sefirin Kızı (2019‑2021), the Netflix film Yolun Açık Olsun (2022), and his OTT debut as writer‑actor in Disney+’s Kaçış (2023). He continues to expand his creative portfolio with the 2023 hit series Adım Farah and remains a brand ambassador for major companies such as Shell and Disney+ Türkiye. In addition to his screen work, Akyürek has published two books, Sessizlik (2018) and Zamansız (2023), showcasing his literary talent. His dedication to craft has earned him multiple honors, including the Most Promising Actor award at the Turkish Cinema Awards in 2006 and the CASOD award for the same role, further confirming his status as a versatile artist.
