Emma Mackey (born Emma Margaret Marie Tachard‑Mackey on 4 January 1996 in Le Mans, France) is a French‑British actress who rose to international prominence through her breakout role as Maeve Wiley in Netflix’s critically acclaimed series Sex Education (2019‑2023). The daughter of a French school headmaster and an English mother, she spent her early childhood in Sablé‑sur‑Sarthe before moving to England to study English language and literature at the University of Leeds, graduating with a BA in 2016. Immediately after university she was cast in her first professional role, delivering a performance that combined sharp wit, vulnerability and a fierce independence, earning her a British Academy Television Award nomination in 2021 and a National Comedy Award win the following year.
