Emily Ting: Movies & Box Office

Emily Ting is known as a versatile American director, producer, and screenwriter, originally hailing from Taipei. She moved to Los Angeles with her family at an early age. Having a strong passion for film and TV, she pursued formal education at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. After graduation, she launched her career in New York, working for Docurama, a documentary distribution company. She later founded her own production company, Unbound Feet Productions, showcasing her leadership skills. Her filmmaking career began with a focus on documentaries, with her first feature-length documentary, 'What's Love Got to Do with It?' debuting in 2002. She also directed a short documentary in 2006, called 'Reality Check', which shone a light on college graduates grappling with unemployment. In a twist of fate, Ting relocated back to Hong Kong in 2007 to run her family business. During this time, she directed a highly personal documentary, 'Family Inc', about her own journey of leaving behind her filmmaking dreams to support her family's toy manufacturing empire. Ting made a significant turn in 2015, when she released her first scripted feature film, 'Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong'. This film, partially inspired by her personal experiences and Sofia Coppola's 'Lost in Translation', received positive reviews and was showcased at various prestigious film festivals. Her subsequent film, 'Go Back to China', is another semi-autobiographical work, reflecting on Ting's diverse life and career experiences.
