Emanuele Crialese: Movies & Box Office

Emanuele Crialese (born 27 May 1965) is a well-known Italian screenwriter and film director, who originally hails from Rome. His career was predominantly honed in the city of New York, where he pursued his interest in filmmaking. His journey in the film industry began early in his life. As a young adult, he was admitted to the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, and graduated in 1995. Throughout his educational journey, he showcased his unique storytelling ability, producing a number of short films including Heartless in 1994. Post his graduation, Crialese directed his debut feature film, 'Once We Were Strangers' (1997), an Italian-American co-production funded by a producer who was impressed by Crialese’s work in America. Between 1998 to 2000, Crialese worked on a project about Ellis Island with esteemed producer Robert Chartoff. His work, ‘Respiro’ (2002), won the Critics Week Grand Prize and the Young Critics Award at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2006, his film, 'Nuovomondo', won six awards at the Venice Film Festival. Throughout his career, Crialese has directed multiple critically acclaimed films, with his most recent release, 'L'immensità' (2022), being showcased at the Venice Film Festival.
