Elith Foss (8 August 1911 – 19 April 1972) was a Danish film actor who built a steady career in Scandinavian cinema during a period that spanned more than three decades. Born in Århus, Denmark, Foss emerged as part of the generation of performers who helped shape the early sound-era Danish film industry, eventually appearing in 29 films between 1933 and 1968. His career began with De blaa drenge in 1933, the same year he made his screen debut, marking the start of a long and varied body of work that included dramas, comedies, and genre pieces typical of mid-century Danish filmmaking. Among his most recognized credits are Blaavand melder storm (1938), a film whose title evokes the maritime traditions of the Danish coast, and Kampen mod uretten (1949), a post-war production in which he contributed to one of the more notable dramatic efforts of the era. Later in his career, Foss continued to take on supporting and character roles in films such as Skibet er ladet med (1960), Støv for alle pengene (1963), and the popular Summer in Tyrol (1964), the latter being part of a wave of light-hearted Scandinavian comedies that brought him broader recognition. Although he never became an international star, his consistent presence in Danish cinema made him a familiar face to local audiences throughout the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Foss's final film appearance came in 1968, after which he retired from the screen. He passed away on 19 April 1972 in Denmark at the age of 60, leaving behind a legacy as a reliable and hardworking character actor within the Danish film tradition.
