Elemér Baló (5 December 1892 – 26 April 1970) was a distinguished Hungarian stage and film actor whose career spanned nearly half a century, beginning in the silent era and extending well into the post-war period. He was born in Budapest, which at the time was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and he passed away in the same city at the age of 77. Baló primarily worked on the Hungarian stage and later transitioned to cinema, where he established himself as a reliable supporting actor. Although he rarely took leading roles on screen, his performances in secondary parts were widely appreciated, demonstrating his versatility and dedication to the craft of acting. Among his most notable appearances was his role as a woodcutter in the 1942 neorealist film People of the Mountains (Emberek a havason), directed by István Szőts. This film is considered a landmark in Hungarian cinema and was screened at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, bringing Baló's work to international attention. The same year, he appeared in a more substantial role in the film Sirius (Különös ismertetőjel nélkül), directed by Dezső Ákos Hamza, which was also showcased at Venice. Throughout his lengthy career, Baló participated in numerous Hungarian films, including Lyon Lea (1915), Stars of Eger (1923), The Ghost Train (1933), Miss President (1935), Gül Baba (1940), and Machita (1944).
