Edoardo Ballerini was born on March 20, 1970 in Los Angeles, California to the Italian poet Luigi Ballerini and American photo‑historian Julia Ballerini. He grew up shuttling between New York City and Milan, becoming fully bilingual and eventually acquiring dual citizenship in the United States and Italy. His early education took place at P.S. 41, Friends Seminary, and later at Deerfield Academy after his parents’ divorce. Ballerini earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University, studying under Paul Horgan, and spent a summer in Rome on a scholarship to study Latin with Father Reginald Foster. While in Italy he joined an international theatre troupe, prompting him to leave his studies and pursue acting full‑time. Returning to New York, he honed his craft at HB Studio, the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, and as an observer at the Actors Studio, laying the groundwork for a long‑standing career that began in the mid‑1990s.
