During the 1950s and 1960s, he became particularly renowned as the regular German voice of Western star Audie Murphy, while also providing the German dubbing for Anthony Perkins in numerous iconic roles including the disturbed Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, as well as voicing performances by comedy legend Steve Martin, dance icon Fred Astaire, and action star George Peppard in the hit series The A-Team. Following the death of fellow voice actor Joachim Höppner in 2006, Dux inherited the prestigious and widely recognized role of dubbing Sir Ian McKellen as the wizard Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, and he memorably voiced David Jason as the inept wizard Rincewind in the television adaptation of Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic.
