Mark Anthony 'Dylan' McDermott, born October 26, 1961, is an American actor recognized for his role as lawyer Bobby Donnell on the legal drama series The Practice. This role won him a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama and a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. His portrayals in the FX horror anthology series American Horror Story, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Dark Blue, Hostages, Stalker, and FBI: Most Wanted are also particularly noted. McDermott was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Diane and Richard McDermott. After his parents divorced, McDermott, along with his sister, was raised by their maternal grandmother, Avis.

As a teenager, he found work in his father's bar, serving drinks and breaking up fights. His acting career began after adopting his acting idols' demeanor and graduating from Fordham University with a BA in 1983. McDermott's debut was in Hamburger Hill in 1987, followed by successful roles such as Julia Roberts's husband in Steel Magnolias and Lawyer Bryan Bedford in Miracle on 34th Street. His career took a significant turn after being cast in The Practice. Despite his successful run, he was eventually cut from the show due to economic and creative realities. In his subsequent career, he worked on several television series and films, including American Horror Story and Olympus Has Fallen. He also participated in a photography exhibition titled The Dylan Project.
