Detlev Buck (born 1 December 1962 in Bad Segeberg, West Germany) is a prolific German film director, actor, producer and screenwriter whose career spans over four decades. From the moment he shot his first short film Work and Leisure in 1982, Buck demonstrated a restless creative energy, quickly moving from experimental shorts to full‑length features. His breakthrough came with the cult classic Karniggels (1991), a quirky comedy that earned him the Bavarian Film Award for Best New Director and announced him as a fresh voice in German cinema. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s he alternated between directing commercially successful family films such as the Bibi & Tina series and more daring projects like Tough Enough (2006), showing a rare versatility in tone and genre.
