Daria Nicolodi: Movies & Box Office

Daria Nicolodi (19 June 1950 – 26 November 2020) was a highly regarded Italian television and film actress and screenwriter, primarily known for her professional association with the movies directed by Dario Argento. Nicolodi was born in Florence, the daughter of a Florentine lawyer and a scholar of ancient languages. Her maternal grandfather was famed composer Alfredo Casella. Nicolodi moved to Rome in the late 1960s, kick-starting her career in the Italian film industry.

Nicolodi's career really took off in the 1970s. Her debuting role surfaced in Francesco Rosi's 'Many Wars Ago', while she gained recognition in 1973's 'Property is No Longer a Theft'. She had a broad range with TV productions, appearing in mini-series and drama productions alike. Nicolodi's prominence soared as she starred in five films directed by Argento between 1975 and 1987, and was especially known for her roles in 'Deep Red' (1975), 'Inferno' (1980), and 'Tenebrae' (1982). Her contributions extended to scriptwriting, particularly for Argento's 'Suspiria' and 'Inferno'. Her post-Argento work included films such as 'Macaroni', 'Notes of Love' and even her daughter Asia Argento's 'Scarlet Diva'. Despite her death in 2020, Nicolodi's legacy continues to be celebrated and was highlighted in a 2012 retrospective at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.
