Danny Morton (born 1 July 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played in the Australian Football League (AFL) for both Fitzroy and Port Adelaide. Hailing from South Australia, Morton began his football journey playing for North Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), where his performances caught the attention of AFL scouts. He was subsequently drafted by Fitzroy with the 70th pick in the 1992 National Draft. Standing at 175 cm (5 ft 9 in) and weighing 64 kg (141 lb), Morton played as a rover, a position requiring agility, endurance, and quick decision-making in the thick of contest. During his first three seasons at Fitzroy, he struggled to cement his place in the team, playing just 14 games. However, in 1996, which was Fitzroy's final season before its merger with the Brisbane Football Club, Morton enjoyed his most productive year at the club, appearing in 16 games. After Fitzroy's dissolution, Morton returned to North Adelaide for the 1997 SANFL season, where his strong form saw him selected by Port Adelaide with pick 41 in the 1997 Draft. He made his debut for Port Adelaide in 1998 and quickly made an impact. In round 12, during a drawn match against Brisbane at the Gabba, Morton earned two Brownlow Medal votes after amassing 27 disposals and four goals. Tragically, the following round against the Western Bulldogs, Morton suffered a severe neck injury after landing awkwardly on his head while contesting a mark. The injury required surgery, during which the C4 and C5 vertebrae were fused using a bone graft from his hip. He missed the remainder of the 1998 season and the entire 1999 season. Morton returned briefly in 2000, appearing in seven of the first 10 rounds before losing his place permanently. Delisted by Port Adelaide at the end of 2000, he joined Norwood in the SANFL for the 2001 season. After retiring from professional football, Morton transitioned into education, becoming a PE teacher at Tyndale Christian School in Adelaide, where he continues to inspire young students with his passion for sport and fitness.
