Crahan Denton: Movies & Box Office

Crahan Denton, born as Arthur Crahan Denton on March 20, 1914, was a renowned figure in American stage, film and television. He is best remembered for his role in 'To Kill a Mockingbird' (1962), where he played Walter Cunningham, a client of the protagonist, Atticus Finch. Besides films, he also had an impressive career in Broadway, with his performance in 'Bus Stop' (1955) earning him the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Performances in Supporting Roles for the year 1954-1955. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Denton, along with his parents, eventually relocated to Piedmont, California. He pursued drama at the University of California, Berkeley, and later furthered his skills at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theatre in New York. He was known to use his middle name 'Crahan', an Irish surname in his family, as his first name. Denton was involved in several Little Theater productions while studying in Berkeley. In New York, he gradually gained momentum in stage roles. His most famous Broadway works include 'Key Largo' (1940), 'Liberty Jones' (1941), 'Fragile Fox' (1954), 'Bus Stop' (1955), and 'Orpheus Descending' (1957). Besides Broadway and films, he starred in many television series, including Bonanza, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and Gunsmoke. Denton, unfortunately, passed away in 1966 when he was just 52 years old because of a heart attack.
