Claudia Llosa: Movies & Box Office

Born November 15, 1976, in Lima, Peru, Claudia Llosa Bueno is a highly recognized Peruvian film director, writer, producer, and author. Notable for her Academy-Award-nominated film, The Milk of Sorrow, Llosa's narrative often encompasses a unique blend of cultural and thematical elements. Daughter to artist Patricia Bueno Risso and engineer Alejandro Llosa Garcia, Llosa pursued a career in film by studying at the University of Lima and Escuela TAI in Madrid. After completing her studies, she moved to Barcelona to work in the advertising industry prior to her cinematic debut. Her first film, Madeinusa, a story of a rural religious village in Peru, was well-received by critics even before its premiere at the Sundance Festival in 2006. Llosa's career took flight with her second film, The Milk of Sorrow, which highlighted the folk beliefs amidst the terror-stricken era of Peru. Inspite of the criticism received for its thematic content, the film managed to surpass ticket sales of the internationally popular film, Slumdog Millionaire, within Lima, Peru. Llosa was later invited to become a part of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2010 for her contribution to the Film Industry. In addition to directing, she has authored the children's book, La Guerrera de Cristal published in 2013, and worked on a few notable TV series.
