Chris McKay: Movies & Box Office

Christopher McKay, born November 11, 1973, is an American filmmaker and animator best known for directing and editing three seasons of Robot Chicken and two seasons of Moral Orel. Born in Winter Park, Florida, McKay spent most of his childhood in Chicago, Illinois. He was heavily influenced by Alfred Hitchcock films and decided to pursue film-making as a career. McKay attended Southern Illinois University for two years as a film student, and completed his degree at Columbia College Chicago. McKay made his feature directorial debut with The Lego Batman Movie in 2017, and has also directed The Tomorrow War in 2021 and Renfield in 2023. In his early career, McKay worked at several video and equipment rental companies. He then worked for three years shooting and editing music videos, industrial videos and local films. Later, he moved to Los Angeles in 2004 and landed a job at the animation studio ShadowMachine. He started working on the first episode of Robot Chicken. After a successful stint with Robot Chicken, he started working on animated series Moral Orel for Adult Swim. His excellent work on Moral Orel earned him the opportunity to direct Robot Chicken. In 2007, he directed the third, fourth, and the fifth seasons of the series, aired on Adult Swim. He also worked as an editor and visual effect artist on the special episode Robot Chicken: Star Wars. In 2011, Warner Bros. hired McKay to co-direct the film's animation for The Lego Movie, which grossed over $468 million. As his career evolved, McKay was set to direct several sequels and adaptations, and his most recent venture is Renfield in 2023.
