Chen Chang: Movies & Box Office

Chen Chang, also called Prince Xian of Hengyang, is a historical character from the Chen Dynasty of Imperial China. He was the only surviving child of the dynasty's founding emperor, Emperor Wu, although he did not ascend to the throne. Instead, after his father's death, the throne was taken by his cousin, Emperor Wen. Born in 537, Chen spent many years as a hostage under Western Wei and Northern Zhou, returning to Chen only in 560. His return was fraught with tension, leading to his mysterious death on the Yangtze River in that same year.

While very young, Chen was given control of Wuxing Commandery and even in his early life, he was described as handsome and intelligent. Despite dealing with considerable political upheaval, including rebellions and power struggles among different empires, he managed to maintain a dignified and respectful presence even when held captive. Despite his ultimate fate - he was allegedly slain while travelling on the Yangtze River - Chen left a significant mark on the history of his region. His life serves as a testament to the turbulent events that marked the period of his life, including the establishment of the Chen Dynasty by his father. However, he left no children to carry on his line, and his title was inherited by his cousin's son.
