Chandrabati Devi was born on 19 October 1909 in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, into a culturally rich environment that would shape her artistic journey. She relocated to Kolkata, where she pursued higher education and successfully graduated in Bengali literature, demonstrating her intellectual depth beyond the performing arts. Her cultural education extended to classical music, as she trained under the renowned Dinendranath Tagore, which provided her with a sophisticated understanding of artistic expression that would later inform her acting career. Her entry into the world of cinema was facilitated by her husband, Bimal Pal, with whom she shared both personal and professional bonds, notably co-founding the production company 'Movie Pictures'.
