Cédric Klapisch: Movies & Box Office

Cédric Klapisch, born on 4th September 1961, is a prominent French film director, screenwriter, and producer. He was born into a Jewish family in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine, with his maternal grandparents tragically being deported to Auschwitz. Klapisch studied cinema at the University of Paris III: Sorbonne Nouvelle and also at the University of Paris VIII. Despite being rejected twice by the esteemed French film school Institut des hautes études cinématographiques, Klapisch continued his pursuit of cinematic mastery and attended New York University's film school(1983-1985). He began his career with short films during the 1980s like In transit and Ce qui me meut, commencing his directorial journey for feature films later on. His first significant film was 'Riens du tout,' with his subsequent films gaining even greater recognition and success. Some of his renowned works include 'Chacun cherche son chat,' 'Un air de famille,' and 'Peut-être.' 1996 marked his larger step into international exposure with divergent films showcasing his directing skillsets.

Klapisch has managed to leverage minor budgets into impressive results, exemplified with 'Le péril jeune' and 'L'Auberge Espagnole.' Their successes have led to subsequent theatrical releases and sequels. He has also contributed to the global fight against AIDS, directing three short films promoting condom use. Klapisch expanded his film portfolio further in 2005 and 2008 with 'Les Poupées Russes' and 'Paris.' He continued his cinematic journey in 2012 with 'Casse-tête chinois' and co-founded LaCinetek in 2015, a streaming platform boasting some of the world's finest films. His creative endeavors persist as he recently directed a unique version of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in 2023
