Carlos José Cuarón Orozco (born 2 October 1966) is a prolific Mexican screenwriter, film producer and director whose career spans more than three decades of innovative storytelling. Born and raised in Mexico City, he pursued English literature at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), a background that nurtured his narrative sensibility and fluency in both Spanish and English. His first major breakthrough came in 1991 when he penned the screenplay for Sólo con tu pareja, a contemporary romantic comedy directed by his brother, the Oscar‑winning Alfonso Cuarón; the script earned the Ariel Award for Best Original Screenplay the same year, establishing him as a formidable writer in the Mexican cinema landscape. Building on that success, Carlos co‑wrote the internationally acclaimed Y tu mamá también (2001) with Alfonso, a road‑movie that combined youthful rebellion with social commentary; the screenplay received the Silver Lion for Best Original Screenplay at Venice, as well as nominations for the BAFTA and the Academy Award, cementing his reputation beyond national borders.
