Billy Milton, born William Thomas Milton on 8 December 1905 in Paddington, Middlesex, was a British stage, film, and television actor whose career spanned more than five decades. The son of Harry Harman Milton, a commission agent, and his wife Hilda Eugenie Milton (née Jackson), he grew up in England and became one of the notable British character actors of the twentieth century. Milton began his acting career in the silent film era, with his earliest known role being an uncredited appearance in The Flag Lieutenant in 1927. Throughout the 1930s, he became a familiar face in British cinema, appearing in numerous films including Young Woodley (1931), The Man from Chicago (1931), The Great Gay Road (1931), and Three Men in a Boat (1933), where he played the character Jimmy. He continued to build his filmography with roles in productions such as Aunt Sally (1933), Music Hath Charms (1935), King of the Castle (1936), and Once in a Million (1936), in which he portrayed a prince. During the late 1930s, Milton's career flourished with appearances in films like Someone at the Door (1936), A Star Fell from Heaven (1936), The Dominant Sex (1937), and Spring Handicap (1937). After a period that appears to have included reduced film activity, he returned to the screen in the late 1950s and 1960s with roles in The Key Man (1957), Playback (1962), The Small World of Sammy Lee (1963), and Heavens Above! (1963), the latter being an uncredited appearance. His later career included notable roles in The Set Up (1963), Who Was Maddox? (1964), Devils of Darkness (1965), and Monster of Terror (1965). Milton also appeared in Licensed to Kill (1965), Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter (1968), and Hot Millions (1968), the latter being another uncredited role. His final film appearance was in Sweet William (1980), where he played the role of an Old Actor in a play, marking the end of a remarkable career that began during the silent film era. Milton passed away on 22 November 1989 in London, England, at the age of 83, leaving behind a legacy of diverse performances across British cinema and television.
