Bent Hamer: Movies & Box Office

Bent Hamer is a renowned film director, writer, and producer who was born in Sandefjord, Norway in 1956. He is an articulate and illustrious figure in the film industry, commended for his distinct style and quirky storytelling. Prior to making feature films, Hamer pursued his interests in the field of Film Theory and Literature at the prestigious University of Stockholm and the Stockholm Film School. He also experimented with short films and documentaries, enriching his repertoire in filmmaking. Bent Hamer made his debut in the movie industry with 'Eggs' in 1995, a film that premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival and showcased in the 'Directors' Fortnight' section. That same year, 'Eggs' won the Best First Film award at the 19th Moscow International Film Festival and received the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1995 Toronto International Film Festival, an impressive feat for a debut film. His 2003 film 'Kitchen Stories' was featured in international film festivals and represented Norway for the highly acclaimed Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.In 2004, he introduced 'Factotum', a screenplay he wrote along with Jim Stark. The film was based on Charles Bukowski's novel and produced in collaboration with Christine Walker. Hamer introduced it at the Kosmorama Film Festival in Trondheim, Norway, in 2005. In addition to his successful career in film, Bent Hamer is also the proud owner and founder of the BulBul Film Association, established in Oslo in 1994.
