Baltasar Kormákur Baltasarsson is a distinguished Icelandic actor, theatre and film director, and film producer. His noteworthy career in film and theater has gained international recognition. He is renowned for his contribution to the film industry through directing films such as 101 Reykjavík, The Sea, A Little Trip to Heaven, Contraband, 2 Guns, Everest, Touch, and the TV series Katla. His endeavour into the world of film commenced when he founded the film production company Blueeyes in 1999 with his wife, Lilja Pálmadóttir. His film Jar City won the acclaimed Crystal Globe award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2007. An outstanding achievement surely, but in 2012 Baltasar's film 'The Deep' was further recognized as the Icelandic entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards, making the January shortlist. Outside of his film career, Baltasar has added to his repertoire by creating the Netflix science fiction series Katla in 2020. Moreover, his directorial piece 'Touch' was bestowed the honour of becoming the closing film at Filmfest München in 2024.*
