Anthony Charles Edwards, born July 19, 1962, is an American actor, director, and producer known for his role as Dr. Mark Greene on the first eight seasons of ER, resulting in a Golden Globe Award and six Screen Actors Guild Awards. Other notable participations include Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Top Gun, Zodiac, Gotcha!, Miracle Mile, Revenge of the Nerds, Planes, Northern Exposure, and Designated Survivor. Born in Santa Barbara, California, to an artist/landscape painter mother and an architect father, he received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England and also studied theatre at the University of Southern California. He gained fame for his role as LTJG Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, alongside Tom Cruise in the 1986 film Top Gun, and reprised his role in the 2022 sequel Top Gun: Maverick. Edwards' directing skills were exhibited and nurtured during his time on ER, which also made him one of the highest-paid actors in television. He took a brief hiatus after ER to raise his children. Afterwards, he landed roles in films such as Thunderbirds, The Forgotten, Zodiac, and lent his voice for the Disneytoon Studios film Planes. He has been involved with numerous productions, making his Broadway debut in 2018, in the revival of Children of a Lesser God. He also made an unexpected Broadway musical debut in 2022, where he appeared as Dr. Walker in the Broadway production of Girl from the North Country alongside his wife, Mare Winningham. Edwards is a four-time Emmy nominee and a Daytime Emmy award recipient.
