Anne-Marie Duff, born October 8, 1970 in London, is an accomplished Anglo-Irish actress and narrator. Her acting career kick-started in television with appearances in Trial & Retribution, Amongst Women, and Aristocrats during the late 1990s. Her breakthrough role came as Fiona Gallagher in the Channel 4 drama series Shameless, and as Queen Elizabeth I in The Virgin Queen; for both roles, she was nominated for BAFTA Best Actress. She was also the recipient of the BAFTA Cymru Award for her brilliant performance in the 2007 television film The History of Mr. Polly. She has showcased her acting prowess in various other television roles across various genres, further solidifying her reputation as a versatile actress.

In film, Duff has undertaken roles in Enigma (2001), The Magdalene Sisters (2002), Notes on a Scandal (2006), French Film (2008), The Last Station (2009) and Nowhere Boy (2009). Her performance in Nowhere Boy won her a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. She continued her work in films with appearances in Before I Go to Sleep (2014) and Suffragette (2015). Outside of her acting career, Duff is also known for her activism work, particularly for her participation in the What's it going to take? campaign promoting awareness of domestic abuse in the UK.
