Anjana Vasan (born 31 January 1987 in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India) is an Indian‑born, British‑based actress whose career spans stage, television and film, marked by a series of critically acclaimed performances. Growing up in a Tamil Hindu family, she moved to Singapore at age four, where she pursued theatre studies at the National University of Singapore before relocating to the United Kingdom to hone her craft at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, earning an MA in Acting in 2012. Her early screen debut came in 2011 with a role as Lauren in Channel 4’s Fresh Meat, and she quickly built a reputation for versatility, appearing in National Theatre Wales productions, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Much Ado About Nothing, and the Manchester International Festival’s Macbeth alongside Kenneth Branagh. After a modest feature‑film debut in the 2015 live‑action Cinderella, Vasan’s stage work earned her an Evening Standard Theatre Award nomination for A Doll’s House and later a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress for her turn as Stella Kowalski in the 2022–2023 revival of A Streetcar Named Desire. On television, she became a household name through the Channel 4 sitcom We Are Lady Parts (2021–2024), where her portrayal of guitarist Amina garnered BAFTA, Independent Spirit and Gotham nominations.
