André Nox (born Abraham André Nonnes-Lopes; 14 November 1869 – 25 February 1946) was a distinguished French film actor whose career spanned the silent and early sound eras of cinema. Born in Paris, France, Nox was also known by the stage name André Nonnez, under which he appeared in several productions during his prolific acting years. He began his film career in 1916 and remained active in the industry until 1940, making him a notable figure during a transformative period in French and European cinema. Throughout his career, Nox demonstrated remarkable versatility, appearing in a wide range of genres that included drama, comedy, and adventure films. Some of his most memorable performances were in The Jackals (1917), Vertigo (1917), and Sharks (1917), which helped establish him as a recognizable presence in early French cinema. He continued to take on diverse roles in the 1920s, starring in films such as Lord Arthur Savile's Crime (1922), After Love (1924), Count Kostia (1925), and The Nude Woman (1926), showcasing his ability to adapt to various narrative styles. As the film industry transitioned into sound, Nox seamlessly continued his career, appearing in notable works like Ecstasy (1933), The Tunnel (1933), and Cease Firing (1934). His later career featured significant roles in The Call of Silence (1936), Beethoven's Great Love (1937), and the historically acclaimed J'accuse! (1938). He passed away on 25 February 1946 in Fouesnant, France, at the age of 76, leaving behind a legacy of nearly 25 years of contributions to cinema.
