Allison Tolman is an American actress best known for her breakout role as Molly Solverson in the first season of the FX anthology series Fargo, a performance that earned her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and solidified her reputation as a nuanced character actor. Born to Valerie (née Clohecy) and Davis Nichols Tolman, a petroleum geologist, she spent her earliest years moving between England, Oklahoma, West Texas, and finally Sugar Land, Texas, where she began formal acting lessons at the Fort Bend Community Theatre at the age of ten. After graduating from Clements High School in 2000, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatrical performance from Baylor University, later co‑founding the Second Thought Theatre in Dallas before relocating to Chicago in 2009 to study at The Second City Training Center. Tolman's career took a decisive turn in 2014 when she was cast as the determined Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson, a role praised by Vanity Fair for “calmly and assuredly stealing the entire show,” and which won her the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress.
