Nicholls (born April 8, 1945 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada) is a multifaceted Canadian artist whose career spans acting, directing, producing, screenwriting, composing, and musicianship, making him a notable figure in North American entertainment. Emerging in the mid‑1960s as the lead vocalist for the RCA‑signed group J.B. & The Playboys, which later evolved into The Jaybees and then Carnival Connection under Capitol, Nicholls showcased a resonant voice that helped the ensembles achieve regional chart success. After a brief but memorable stint as Claude in the groundbreaking musical Hair, he returned to his native Montreal to front the progressive rock band Mashmakhan, contributing to the city's vibrant music scene before launching a solo recording career that produced several Canadian chart entries and a retrospective anthology released by Super Oldies in 2005.
