Alicia Barrié, born Sara Ramona Alicia Masriera del Campillo on 7 October 1915 in Chile, was a celebrated Chilean actress whose career flourished primarily in Argentina. Growing up with a passion for the performing arts, Barrié moved with her family to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she made her acting debut in the 1933 film Dancing, marking the beginning of what would become a prolific career spanning nearly two decades. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, she became a familiar face in Argentine cinema, starring in a remarkable series of films that showcased her versatility as an actress. Her filmography during this golden age of Latin American cinema included notable titles such as Radio Bar (1936), El conventillo de la Paloma (1936), Embrujo (1941), Una novia en apuros (1941), and the English-language productions Honeymoon in Rio (1940) and An Ideal Husband (1947). Barrié demonstrated remarkable range, appearing in comedies, dramas, and musicals, working alongside other prominent figures of the era. Her performances in Mi fortuna por un nieto (1940) and La mujer y el jockey (1939) helped establish her as a beloved star in the region. In 1948, Barrié married American Robert Farmer, with whom she had one child. Following her marriage, she moved to Mexico, where she filmed her final notable work, Yo fui una usurpadora (1950), before relocating to the United States. She retired from acting in 1949, ending a career that produced more than 28 films over 16 years. Barrié passed away on 28 September 2002 in Longwood, Florida, at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy as one of the pioneering Chilean actresses to make a significant mark on Argentine and Latin American cinema.
