In Zone 414, a futuristic and enclosed city filled with cutting-edge humanoid robots designed to serve wealthy clientele, the narrative unfolds when the brilliant inventor behind these machines realizes that his adult daughter, Melissa, has mysteriously vanished within its boundaries. Desperate to find her, he hires David Carmichael, a private investigator played by Guy Pearce who has a troubled past, having left the police force under tragic circumstances after a hostage situation led to the death of his partner and a criminal. As tensions escalate with Jane’s stalker, David and Jane horrifically uncover Melissa’s lifeless body hanging in a deserted warehouse. Grieving, David brings her remains back to Marlon, insisting that authorities must be informed about the hazards within Zone 414. A confrontation with Joseph Veidt, the psychologist assessing David’s worthiness for this job, reveals darker secrets: Joseph admits to killing Melissa after she discovered his inhumane acts toward androids.

In a tense encounter, Joseph attempts to incapacitate Jane, but she asserts her autonomy, quickly overpowering him.
