In Kolkata, Suraj leads a life of anonymity, until his friend Dildar respectfully nudges him to come back. The film then shifts into a long flashback: Suraj is a chemistry professor teaching at a women’s college, where one student, Pooja, is spoiled, bratty, and fond of pranks that disrupt the class—like bursting crackers just to “welcome” the new professor. Her mischief isn’t about harmless fun; it threads through the classroom, the halls, and even into Dildar’s wedding anniversary, rattling the routine of everyone around her.
Amid this chaos, Suraj’s heart belongs to Supriya, a woman who has suffered a paralytic attack and is undergoing treatment in an Ayurvedic hospital. The tension between duty and affection grows as Pooja’s pranks intensify, leaving Suraj caught between care and confrontation. Pooja, meanwhile, begins to test boundaries, refusing to back down as she taunts and torments the professor both at home and at college.
The story takes a sharper turn when Supriya’s father informs Suraj that Supriya has started walking again, defying the illness that once kept her immobilized. At the same time, Pooja—still smarting from the sense of being sidelined—pretends to have a brain tumor as a cruel joke, a ruse that infuriates Suraj. Ironically, Pooja’s feelings deepen in the wake of this deception; she has fallen in love with Suraj, and the line between obsession and genuine emotion becomes blurred.
Pooja’s affection surfaces openly when she confesses her love for Suraj. To clear the air, Suraj introduces Supriya as his “love and life” to Pooja and her friends. Misunderstanding and insecurity push Pooja to view this as a slight, and she brands Suraj a sadist. The rift widens as Pooja decides to quit college, blaming Supriya for the shaky dynamics in Suraj’s life. This moment marks a turning point, as the fragile balance of relationships teeters on the edge of betrayal and duty. Pooja’s feelings, however, are not as simple as they appear, and the tension intensifies as the truth begins to surface.
Pooja confronts Supriya with a claim that Suraj merely sympathizes with her because of illness, a confrontation that exposes the stakes of their intertwined lives. On her father’s insistence, Pooja rejoins college, where she learns that Supriya has been hospitalized after a mental shock. In a consequential turn, Supriya chooses to break off her engagement with Suraj and asks that he marry Pooja—an unusual request that tests everyone’s loyalties and desires. Supriya’s father also presses for the match, arguing that it is what Supriya truly wants.
After some hesitation, Suraj agrees to marry Pooja, but the union is haunted by guilt. The weight of hurting Supriya and disrupting lives drives Pooja to depression, a sorrow that stains the newly formed family with quiet tragedy. The truth about the past unravels when Supriya’s father bursts with anger toward Pooja, and Suraj discovers the depth of the pain that has been hidden beneath the surface. He walks out on Pooja, leaving the family in a fragile state.
Five years pass, and the narrative reveals that Pooja has died by suicide. Before her death, she had given birth to a baby girl, now cared for by Supriya, who has fully recovered. In this hard-won moment of reconciliation, Suraj forgives Pooja and extends his life to Supriya and their daughter. The little girl—the daughter named Pooja by Supriya—becomes a living reminder of the cost of secrets and the possibility of healing through forgiveness and family ties, even after years of pain.
Across the arc of love, ambition, jealousy, and forgiveness, the film keeps its focus on the emotional truth of its characters. The relationships, strained by illness, miscommunication, and pride, ultimately converge into a hopeful resolution that affirms a second chance at family—and the quiet strength it takes to choose reconciliation over resentment, even after a lifetime of misunderstanding.
