Sakamichi Onoda is a first-year high school student who lives as a dedicated otaku, hoping to find friends who share his hobbies by joining the school’s anime club. He is crushed to discover the club has already been disbanded due to a lack of interest, and a new challenge arises: to reestablish the club, four new members must join. This goal sets the stage for Onoda’s journey into teamwork, perseverance, and new friendships as he tries to turn a solitary passion into a shared experience.

Since childhood, Onoda has ridden a simple city bicycle known as a mamachari—a sturdy, bulky bike built for short rides and everyday adventures. He attracts attention from two fellow freshmen with very different temperaments: Shunsuke Imaizumi, a more serious cyclist who initially mocks Onoda inwardly, and Naruko, a student who visits Akihabara in search of plastic Gundam models for his younger brothers. The moment Naruko sees Onoda maneuver his mamachari with surprising ease, his interest is piqued, and Imaizumi’s initial skepticism begins to waver.

As the story unfolds, both Naruko and Imaizumi see potential in Onoda and press him to consider the bicycle racing club at Sohoku High School. Their motivation is clear: they believe his unique style and stubborn determination could be a valuable addition to the team. The invitation signals a shift in Onoda’s high school life, pointing toward a path where cycling—more than a hobby—could become a gateway to new goals, rivalries, and camaraderie within the Sohoku community.
