Kanna Hashimoto

Kanna Hashimoto (born 3 February 1999 in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan) began her entertainment path at the tender age of eight when she signed with the local agency Active Hakata. After appearing in regional commercials and joining the co‑ed dance unit DVL, she transitioned to the all‑female idol group Rev. from DVL in 2011. A candid photograph taken at a live concert in May 2013 went viral on Twitter and 2channel, earning her the moniker “once‑in‑a‑millennium talent” and catapulting her from a local idol to a national sensation. The sudden wave of attention brought a flood of television offers, endorsements, and even a personal invitation from Kadokawa’s Shinichiro Inoue, who cast her in the film Sailor Suit and Machine Gun: Graduation.

Since her debut in Hirokazu Kore‑eda’s I Wish (2011), Hashimoto has built a diverse filmography that spans comedy, action, and romance. Highlights include starring as Izumi Hoshi in Sailor Suit and Machine Gun: Graduation (2016), earning the Japan Academy New Actor Award, portraying Kagura in the live‑action Gintama (2017), and embodying the charismatic Kokomi Teruhashi in The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. (2017). Her performance as Kaguya Shinomiya in the acclaimed adaptation Kaguya‑sama: Love Is War (2019) further cemented her status as a leading actress, followed by roles in Kingdom (2019), Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight (2019), and the recent Kaguya‑sama Final: Love Is War (2024). In addition to screen work, Hashimoto made her stage debut in the theatrical version of Spirited Away (2022) and has continued to appear in high‑profile commercials and as an ambassador for the Tokyo International Film Festival.
