Yowamushi Pedal Re:RIDE 2014

Sakamichi Onoda, Daiki Yamashita, is an otaku who has just entered high school. He hopes to change his quiet, friendless middle school days by joining his new school’s anime club, but he faces a disappointment when he discovers the club has been disbanded for lack of interest. To give the club a fresh start, the school sets a goal: four new members must join.

Since childhood, Onoda has ridden his city bicycle—a bulky, practical ride known as a mamachari (literally “Mommy Bike”) that’s built for short trips and everyday tasks. A fellow freshman with a very different passion for cycling, Shunsuke Imaizumi Jun Fukushima, notices Onoda pedaling the mamachari and initially mocks him inwardly. That dismissive attitude shifts when Imaizumi witnesses Onoda climb a steep hill with surprising ease, revealing a natural talent that surprises the more serious rider.

Another student, Naruko, visits Akihabara to pick up plastic Gundam models for his younger brothers and happens to meet Onoda. It’s Onoda’s cycling skill on the humble mamachari that captures Naruko’s attention, hinting at the potential bond between these two unlikely acquaintances. As the day unfolds, it becomes clear that this trio is only the beginning of a larger story about friendship, ambition, and the thrill of wheels in motion.

Ultimately, Imaizumi and Naruko each see something in Onoda worth pursuing, and they work to persuade him to join the bicycle racing club at Sohoku. The possibility of reviving the club introduces a new dynamic to their high school lives, where patience, discipline, and teamwork begin to shape their days together. The journey ahead promises growth for Onoda and his new allies as they navigate the challenges of racing, rivalry, and the shared dream of building a team from the ground up.
