A series of murders haunts the city: victims are found mutilated, some bearing the Price equation wΔz = Cov(w,z) = βwzVz carved into their flesh. Detectives Eddie Argo and his new partner Helen Westcott learn that each killer forces victims to choose between killing a loved one or being killed themselves. As the case unfolds, they realize the perpetrator, tormented by the same impossible choice, is seeking a way out of this philosophical nightmare.
