
Set against the backdrop of Expo ’70, the first world fair held in Japan in 1970, the film follows a miner whose livelihood ends when his mine closes. Facing sudden unemployment, he relocates his whole family to the remote farms of Hokkaido in northern Japan, where they confront harsh weather, unfamiliar customs and the difficulties of rebuilding their lives as agricultural workers.
