At twenty-nine, Claire Ryan, Anna Friel, seems to have everything she ever wanted: a boyfriend she adores, a stylish apartment, and a rewarding job. Then she discovers she is pregnant with her ex-boyfriend’s baby and tries to tell him, but he doesn’t give her the chance to speak. On the day she gives birth, when Claire admits that he’s not the father, James Wearing, Jamie Draven informs Claire that he’s leaving her. Claire is left with a newborn daughter, a broken heart, and a body she can hardly bear to look at in the mirror.

With few options, Claire returns home to Dublin to be with her family: her sister Anna Ryan, Elaine Cassidy; her soap-watching mother Teresa Ryan, Brenda Fricker; and her bewildered father Joe Ryan, Sean McGinley. There, she and her newborn daughter Kate, Siocha Quinn, begin to heal under the steady support of a loving clan.

“as a moral man”

James Wearing, Jamie Draven, flies in that same night. Teresa realizes James truly loves her daughter and tells him which restaurant Claire is at. Ultimately, Adam is understanding when Claire chooses James, trusting that love and family will guide them forward.
