Taboulistan is a tiny fictional country in Central Asia, tucked between Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, barely known to the wider world. Two half-brother shepherds Adadat Ouèchmagül and Feruz are dispatched by the Taboulistani president to France to put the country on the map. Their mission is described as “terrorist advertising” in a darkly comic sense, a plan that centers on destroying the Eiffel Tower with a plane—an idea as audacious as it is reckless, and one that sets the tone for the ensuing chaos.
