Franck Gastambide

Franck Gastambide is a multifaceted French talent born on 31 October 1978 in Melun, Seine‑et‑Marne, Île‑de‑France. From an early age he displayed a deep fascination with large, often misunderstood breeds of dogs, earning a guard’s certificate and later becoming a recognized expert on “dangerous” breeds by the time he was twenty. This niche expertise led him behind the scenes on film sets such as The Crimson Rivers and The Magnificent Four, where he trained Rottweilers and Pit Bulls, and it also opened doors to industry contacts, notably a friendship with actor‑director Mathieu Kassovitz. Leveraging these connections, Gastambide entered the world of acting through short films and hip‑hop music videos, while simultaneously working as a dog trainer and cinematographer on dozens of French productions and TV reports. In 2009, he co‑created the low‑budget web series Kaïra Shopping, a satirical take on newsreels that quickly went viral, earning a slot on Canal+ and spawning several seasons as well as a cameo in Bacon on the Side.

The success of his internet series paved the way for Gastambide’s directorial debut with Les Kaïra (aka Porn in the Hood) in 2012, a film that transitioned from web‑show to big screen and premiered at Cannes under Gaumont’s distribution. The movie’s massive viewership—over a million – made it the most profitable French film of that year, and it earned him the prestigious Le Film français prize. Following this breakthrough, he directed Pattaya (2016) and took the helm of Taxi 5 (2018), also starring as a central police officer. Beyond directing, he has acted in popular comedies like Vive la France, I Kissed a Girl, and Good Luck, Sam, and he created the TV series Validé (2020). Throughout his career, Gastambide has worn many hats—actor, director, screenwriter, and producer—solidifying his reputation as a dynamic force in contemporary French cinema.
