In the hill city of Panimalai, spring breathes through emerald valleys as a new health crisis arrives with a jolt. The story opens with a familiar voice—RJ Balaji—visiting Panimalai for a live radio show, only to lose his voice mid-broadcast when a mysterious new virus, the mute flu, begins to spread. The town reels as people suddenly find themselves unable to speak, and some faces grow tentative, fearing the worst. Amid the growing panic, the state assigns Health Minister Sundaralingam to oversee the response, setting up mass checkups to determine who has contracted the flu.

Into this crisis steps Aravind, a glue company sales rep who harbors a quiet dream of becoming a radio jockey. He frequents FM interviews, hoping to turn his passion into a profession, and his path crosses with Anjana, a junior doctor whose sharp wit masks a deeper belief: speaking openly is the root of most troubles in the world. Anjana lives with her father and her stepmother Vidhya, a warm-hearted writer who is trying to coax her husband into paying more attention to her work. Her husband is Vinodh, a possessive man who seldom yields the microphone to others. The dynamic between Anjana and Vinodh forms a quiet undercurrent as Panimalai negotiates the new normal of living without speech.

As the mute flu reshapes daily life, a public dispute erupts around a film star, Bhoomesh, nicknamed the “Nuclear Star.” He faces opposition from Ravi, the charismatic head of the Drinkers Association, who believes Bhoomesh’s films cast drinkers in a negative light. The two polarities—fandom and cultural critique—ignite clashes on the streets of Panimalai, while Ganesh, a local figure who stirs the crowds, becomes a visible force in the growing rift. Amid this turmoil, Aravind and Anjana strike a cautious friendship, with Aravind urging her to confront the issues in front of them rather than letting them simmer in silence. His challenge to her—a test that if he can ease the feud between Bhoomesh’s fans and the Drinkers, Anjana must speak openly with Vinodh—frames a central moral tension: will truth and candor heal a fractured community?

As relationships unfold, Aravind’s past ties him to the town’s orphanage, which is overseen by Adhikesavan, a stubborn elder determined to vacate the place for wealthier tenants. Although Aravind contributes what he can, the needs of the orphanage remain a heavy burden. In a bid to bridge the rift he faces with the elder, Aravind and his friend Sathish orchestrate a bold move—kidnapping Adhikesavan and leaving him at his son’s home to spark a dialogue and an unexpected bond. The scene widens the camera to reveal the full scope of Adhikesavan’s world, including his son Leo Sivadass, who provides a quieter counterpoint to the elder’s stubbornness.

The health organization’s final report reveals a chilling truth: the flu spreads exclusively through speech, and the town’s new law bans talking to curb its spread. People adapt, learning to communicate without words, and Aravind uses this moment to convene a critical meeting between Bhoomesh’s fans and the Drinkers Association. Through slow, careful negotiation and a shared sense of responsibility, the two sides begin to reconcile, demonstrating that even a crisis born from words can be resolved through listening and compromise.

A cure for the mute flu is developed, offering hope. Yet the remedy carries risk: if a person has been infected but still retains the ability to speak, the cure can trigger a side effect that erases that voice entirely. The town’s adaptation continues as people cautiously move toward treatment, balancing relief with the possibility of new losses. In a climactic progression, most of Panimalai’s residents find their voices returned, and the community begins to heal together.

Yet the closing act turns bittersweet. Sundaralingam, who had feigned illness for political theater, finally speaks the truth in the moment of his “cure” on stage, only to discover that his voice has vanished for real. The arc closes with a town that has learned to live without words and then rediscovered them, guided by a belief that honest dialogue, courage, and reconciliation can outpace fear and silence.
