On a stormy and dismal night, a young woman named Michelle Mancini finds herself behind the wheel of her pickup truck, listening attentively to a college radio DJ. Shortly after a dangerous near-miss with another vehicle, she realizes her gas tank is nearly empty. As a result, she pulls into a desolate gas station that looks as if it’s seen better days. The strange-looking attendant, clearly unordinary and somewhat unsettling, offers to fill her tank. Concerned about her dwindling cash options, Michelle attempts to pay by credit card. After a short while, the attendant insists her card has declined and urges her to step into his office to resolve the matter over the phone. As she picks up the receiver, she quickly figures out that there’s nobody on the other end. Panic begins to set in as she notices the attendant approaching her, stammering in excitement yet utterly incoherent. Fearing for her safety, Michelle sprays mace into his face and bolts back to her truck. Just as she thinks she’s escaping, he screams after her, claiming he’s only trying to help and warns her, “SOMEONE’S IN THE BACK SEAT!” Suddenly, dread overtakes her as she feels a presence in her vehicle—an unidentified figure springs up in the back seat and swings an axe at her.

That same night, over in the comfortable environment of a coffee shop lounge located at Pendleton University, we find college student Parker Riley regaling his friends with the spine-chilling urban legend known as the “Stanley Hall Massacre”—the horrific tale of a deranged professor who claimed the lives of a dozen students in a now-abandoned dormitory two and a half decades prior. Skateboarding by are Natalie Simon and her friend Brenda Bates as they listen skeptically. Amidst the chatter, Parker’s girlfriend, Sasha Thomas, who hosts a local call-in radio show, wraps up her broadcast. Paul Gardener, a somewhat obnoxious student reporter, scoffs at Parker’s story, though it draws Brenda’s interest keenly. The wariness increases when Natalie and Brenda present their plans to explore the abandoned Stanley Hall, jokingly suggesting they invoke the name “Bloody Mary.” Suddenly, Damon Brooks, a rebellious classmate, appears to mock their intentions, intensifying the thrilling atmosphere of their adventure.

When a tragic incident concerning her friend leads her down a rabbit hole of investigation, she uncovers hidden truths relating to Tosh, her Goth roommate, whose untimely end is chalked up to suicide, despite Natalie’s suspicions. As the grisly murders accumulate, Natalie’s desperate hunt for answers sees her and Paul pulling at the threads of the past, only to be thwarted by the interference of Dean Adams and the enigmatic janitor. The urgency escalates as they unravel Brenda’s shocking connection to the series of events, culminating in a nail-biting confrontation where deception transforms her from a sympathetic figure into a chilling antagonist, driven by revenge for past grievances.
