Under the Bed 2013

After spending two challenging years with his Aunt Sarah in sunny Florida, troubled teenager Neal Hausman returns to his home with his father, Terry. This return is far from joyous as Neal carries the burden of guilt from a devastating event — the fire that consumed their family home and tragically claimed his mother’s life. During his absence, Terry has remarried a woman named Angela, and the new family dynamic is tense, with Terry striving to bring a sense of normalcy while grappling with Neal’s emotional withdrawal and silence.

Upon his return, Neal is greeted with a “Welcome Home” party, organized by friends and neighbors. Among the familiar faces is Mr. Evans, who offers Neal an opportunity to reconnect with his sons, Richard and Robert, during a casual sleepover. Additionally, Neal encounters Mr. Evans’ daughter, Cara, rekindling a past relationship filled with unresolved emotions. As Neal goes upstairs to his old bedroom, he is joyfully reunited with his younger brother, Paulie. However, tensions flare when Terry discovers that Paulie has been rummaging through boxes containing Neal’s belongings from before the tragic fire, leading Terry to reprimand both boys and abruptly end the festivities.

Seeking solace and a sense of normalcy, the brothers venture out to Melanie’s Diner, where Paulie confides a secret to Neal — he believes that Neal’s earlier claims of seeing a terrifying creature are true, as he, too, has witnessed it. Meanwhile, back at their home, the entity lurks ominously, frightening Angela during a mundane moment of laundry, yet she remains unaware of its presence. Following a series of encounters with both Cara and a couple of bullies, the brothers return home for dinner, but the day’s events take a darker turn.

In the school the following day, Paulie is jolted awake from a nightmare, shrieking and causing concern for Terry. With emotions running high, Terry talks to his sons about their fears concerning sleep. After a stern lecture, the boys are sent to bed, only for Paulie to demonstrate his method of avoiding the creature beneath their beds — a tactic that involves jumping into bed as quickly as possible. Neal opts to sleep on a dresser to evade touching the floor. As the night deepens, a chilling mist engulfs the room, unsettling everything. They find themselves confronted by horrifying visions of their father, leading to a startling and misconstrued scene when Terry enters, believing Neal is attacking Paulie.

In a moment of vulnerability, Paulie shows Neal the urn containing their mother’s ashes, cherished and hidden safely in the garage. The emotional weight of the past surfaces when Neal reveals that he begged their mother to remain in the house on the fateful night of the fire, hoping she would understand the terror lurking beneath the bed. Motivated by their shared torment, the brothers begin to craft makeshift weapons from various items found in the garage, trying to arm themselves against the lurking malevolence, even as Angela intervenes to stop Neal from using a chainsaw in the process.

That night, as they settle in with their newly created defenses, the mist returns, and the creature emerges from Neal’s old bed. The boys manage to escape, but not without intense fear and a sense of dread that follows them. The following day, they find themselves once again heading to the Evans household for a sleepover, hoping for a brief reprieve. However, the sinister presence continues to stalk Angie back at the Hausman home, intensifying the already high-stakes situation.

As Neal and Paulie recount their terrifying tale to Richard and Robert, the atmosphere shifts ominously. Mist creeps into the room, and the creature reappears, leading to a horrifying encounter where it brutally claims Richard in a shocking moment of horror. Neal’s protective instincts kick in as he urges Cara to stay safe in the light. In a desperate escape, the brothers leap from a window, racing home only to discover the creature has followed them, culminating in a brutal confrontation that results in Terry’s death and the dreadful loss of Paulie into the monster’s grasp.

Determined to save his brother, Neal prepares for a perilous journey under the bed, tying a rope around himself with Angela holding on for dear life above. Venturing into the creature’s domain, he finds Paulie and manages to rescue him from the grips of the entity. In an explosive return to reality, they bring the creature with them, leading to a fierce battle in the garage. When tragedy strikes and the urn is knocked over, Neal makes a shocking realization — his mother’s ashes hold the key to defeating the monster. With newfound determination, he takes a handful of her remains and successfully destroys the creature, reclaiming their lives in a heart-stopping confrontation.

At the story’s conclusion, the brothers are reunited, seeking solace in each other and with Angela, as they begin to heal from their traumatic past—together, fortified by their shared experiences and the bonds of family.
