Spoilers ahead
In the North Atlantic, 1945, a squadron of B-24 Liberators carries the 101st Airborne as radio chatter buzzes with the news that Berlin has fallen and Germany may surrender. Yet a darker rumor persists: a Nazi superweapon is aimed at the United States. Captain America, Steve Rogers leads the raid on a fortress on a remote island off the coast of Norway, where this weapon is believed to be kept. Rogers crashes through the fortress defenses and comes face to face with his nemesis Herr Kleiser, an extraterrestrial shape-shifter guarding the device. When the weapon fires, Rogers makes a selfless, almost suicidal choice to throw himself onto the rocket, triggering a self-destruct that destroys the weapon but sends him plunging into the ocean.
