What Is Ubu and the Great Gidouille About?
The premise of Ubu and the Great Gidouille without spoilers.
Presented as a striking cut‑out‑and‑move animation, the film adapts all three of Alfred Jarry’s Ubu plays in a highly stylized visual language. Every character is exaggerated to near abstraction: in the opening tableau Ma Ubu appears as a beetle‑like insect, while Pa Ubu sports an oversized jaw and a tiny, microcephalic head, underscoring the grotesque satire of the original works.
