In 1965, a Hong Kong hospital becomes the unlikely stage for a dramatic clash between newborn twins and a ruthless gang leader named Crazy Kung, who is being transported as a captive in the same facility. When Crazy Kung escapes and tries to seize one of the babies, chaos erupts and the twins are forever separated. One twin, Ma Yau [Jackie Chan], grows up in America as a gifted concert pianist and conductor, while the other, Ma Wan, is raised by an alcoholic woman named Tsui and becomes Bok Min—a street-smart racer with impressive martial arts skills. For years, the brothers remain blissfully unaware of each other’s existence, living in parallel worlds that could not be more different.

Twenty-six years pass, and the twins’ fates begin to converge in surprising ways. Bok Min, along with his best friend Tarzan, gets entangled with a dangerous gang, while back in Hong Kong Ma Yau is preparing to lead a major concert that will mark a pivotal moment in his career. On the romantic front, Bok Min finds himself drawn to Barbara [Maggie Cheung], a nightclub singer, whereas Ma Yau forms a connection with Tong Sum, a young woman from a respectable family with a hidden passion for fighters. The two halves of the family remain unaware of their shared bloodline, even as fate pushes them closer together.

When the twins finally meet, they discover an uncanny link that goes beyond appearance. A series of comic and chaotic misunderstandings erupts: Ma Yau is unexpectedly recruited by the gang to serve as the escape driver for releasing Crazy Kung, while Bok Min is compelled to conduct Ma Yau’s concert—an event that becomes a sensational success despite Bok Min’s lack of formal musical training. The two brothers swap roles and, along with their romantic interests, find themselves intertwined in a web of mistaken identities and high-stakes incentives.

The plot darkens as the gang kidnaps Tarzan to force Ma Yau into surrendering a critical briefcase that had fallen into his possession. Determined to protect his brother and right the wrongs, the twins team up to dismantle the gang’s operation. The climax unfolds at a vehicle testing center, where Crazy Kung meets a fatal end in a runaway crash. The film closes on a note of festive anticipation—a double wedding looming, and Bok Min finally meeting his real parents. Yet as nerves fray and true footing is sought, a final comic gag lands when the wedding guests, unable to tell the two twins apart, watch the ceremony collide with chaos, leaving everyone to wonder who is who.
