On a lively New York sidewalk, the Bowery Boys’ leader Slip Mahoney and his partner Sach run a small star-gazing operation, using a big telescope to watch the city go by when business is slow. One clear evening they catch a disturbing sight: a man seems to be strangled in a room at the nearby El Royale Hotel, not far from where they’re stationed. Curious and fearless, they decide to involve their friend inside the police department, Gabe Moreno, hoping to shed light on what they’ve glimpsed.

They head to the hotel with the help of the hotel’s manager, Mr. Andre Schmidtlap, and peek into the room that’s supposed to be occupied by a man named Silky Thomas. Yet the suite is empty, and there’s no body to be found. To show how the strangulation might have been performed, Slip and Sach use themselves and Schmidtlap as makeshift props, illustrating the method to Gabe. This improvisation draws the attention of the room’s occupants, and when Captain Madison and his superior officers arrive, they misread the scene, assuming a crime is unfolding before them. After a tense misfire, Thomas slips back to his room and the group leaves, still unsure what really happened.

Back on the street, Slip puts his street-smarts to work, gathering information that helps Gabe uncover illegal gambling operations. The police raid succeeds in shutting down the operation, but the case winds up pointing to the hotel’s own management, with Thomas at the helm of the gambling scene. In a critical moment, the gang’s associate and goon Ben Feathers delivers a coin that becomes central to the intrigue, hinting at deeper ties beyond the hotel walls.

Meanwhile, Slip reads about a murder in the newspaper: Frederick X. Prescott’s body has been found far from the hotel, raising questions about a possible connection to the hotel’s fortunes. From Prescott’s morgue visit, Slip learns that Prescott had owned a share in the hotel but recently transferred that stake to his daughter, Ann Prescott. With this new ownership, Ann steps into a central role, and she invites Slip and Sach to work as bellboys in the hotel so they can dig deeper into the mystery.

As the investigation progresses, Moran, a recently released gangster who is eager to rekindle old ties, arrives at the hotel and tries to strike a partnership with Thomas. Moran’s interest is welcomed at first, but Thomas stands firm, managing the hotel and its nightspot on his own. The tension thickens when Ann reveals she knows the significance of the coin and its link to Prescott, while Thomas quietly tests the boys’ loyalty and readiness to hand over the coin if pressured.

Tensions rise when Moran mistakes Sach for a former ally, and during a room-service interaction, Sach is drawn into a dangerous assignment: to drive the getaway car for a bank robbery. The moment crystallizes when Thomas confesses to Moran that Sach isn’t who he appears to be, and Slip and Sach are summoned to Moran’s room to relinquish the coin. Slip confronts Thomas, accusing him of murder and deception, escalating the stakes of an already tangled web.

The escape becomes a high-stakes chase as the boys flee through a window onto the fire escape, pursued by Moran and his gang. From their vantage point, the crew of Bowery Boys spots the pursuing gang through Slip and Sach’s telescope, and a frantic pursuit erupts. The boys manage to outmaneuver the gang and knock their adversaries unconscious, preserving their secret and the integrity of the case, at least for the moment.

Just as the tension peaks, Gabe and his colleagues arrive at the hotel and catch [Mr. Andre Schmidtlap] again, now trying to slip away as Thomas’s case begins to unravel. The confrontation culminates with the capture of Thomas as he attempts to flee, while the two young sleuths reclaim their stake in the ongoing street-side star-gazing operation, ready to return to their sidewalk observatory and the quiet rhythm of the city they know so well.
