Trick or Treat for Halloween opens with the film’s catchy song, a playful tune that also carries a clear moral: be generous on Halloween or invite trouble. One Halloween night, June Foray as Hazel the Witch brings a mischievous spark to the story, delighting in scaring bats on a clock tower and a cat, until a jack-o’-lantern startles her and she hides behind a tree. That jack-o’-lantern, part of Huey, Dewey, and Louie’s costumes, becomes a signal of the adventure to come. The trio makes their way to their uncle Donald Duck, Clarence Nash voicing him, and Huey, Dewey, and Louie Clarence Nash accompany him as they plan a classic Halloween prank. Donald decides to turn the trick around by stuffing their bags with firecrackers and then dumping a bucket of water on their heads, a stunt that leaves the boys crestfallen as they sit on the curb.

Hazel, who has been watching themayhem unfold, approaches and reveals that she saw everything. Believing in witches, the boys eagerly accept her help to secure their dwindling treats from Donald. At first, Hazel tries to persuade Donald with calm reasoning, but he brushes her off with a tough-guy reply and pummels her with a bucket of water, dismissing her as a real threat. Realizing the prank may require real magic, Hazel tells the boys she will use her powers to tilt the odds in their favor. The story then pivots into a whimsical thread that nods to Shakespeare’s Macbeth, as Hazel and the nephews conjure a potion with eccentric ingredients—Eye of needle, tongue of shoe, hand of clock that points at two!—before testing it in a scene that blends fantasy with lighthearted mischief.

With the potion ready, Hazel refills an insecticide sprayer—reminiscent of a Flit gun—and returns to Donald’s house with the boys in tow. On arrival, she sprays the potion onto an assortment of objects—a Jack-o’-lantern, a can of paint, three fence posts, and a gate—causing them to awaken and move with a life of their own. Donald, momentarily stunned by this magical display, quickly concedes and promises to treat his nephews, but Hazel, unimpressed by his attitude, calls him a pushover and intensifies the spell. She targets his feet to gain control of their motion and orders them to kick out the key, prompting Donald to dance wildly as Hazel drums on her broom like a guitar and sings along to the chaos. A cactus pokes him from behind and the fireplace burns, helping dislodge the key from his stomach. Yet Donald yanks the key and hides it beneath the pantry door. Enraged, Hazel casts a stronger hex—“that’s double-grim!”—on Donald’s feet, urging him to smash the door down. After a dramatic sprint, he charges the pantry and slams into it, collapsing unconscious amid the mayhem.

Behind the scenes, The Mellomen provide the nimble vocal texture that threads through the scene, with Thurl Ravenscroft lending his voice to the group. In the end, Huey, Dewey, and Louie collect their rightful treats, and Hazel takes to the night sky once more. The closing beat returns to the mischievous pumpkin—the enchanted Jack-o’-lantern from earlier—who pops back onto the screen and delivers a final, playful fright:
