Treasure Island 1972

Jim Hawkins, Kim Burfield, is a young boy who works at a tavern with his mother, Maria Rohm. When a drunken old sailor named Billy Bones, Lionel Stander, arrives for a drink and dies, Jim unexpectedly comes into a map that reveals the whereabouts of pirate Captain Flint’s treasure. Fueled by curiosity and a sense of adventure, he wastes no time and enlists the help of the pragmatic Squire Trelawney, Walter Slezak, and the steady Doctor Livesey, Ángel del Pozo, to study the map and set a course for the island it marks. Together, they sign on to a ship commanded by Captain Smollett, Rik Battaglia, which will carry them toward their coveted prize.

Word of the treasure map spreads, drawing a larger crew, with the ship’s cook Long John Silver, Orson Welles, at the heart of the drama. Silver is a charismatic ex-pirate who once sailed with Captain Flint and now plans mutiny and murder to seize the treasure for himself. His presence adds a tense edge to the voyage, as trust becomes a scarce commodity and every decision might turn the tide between success and catastrophe.

Already on the island is a marooned pirate, Ben Gunn, Jean Lefebvre, who has spent years secretly amassing a portion of the treasure. With Jim, the Squire, the Doctor, the Captain, and a number of loyal crewmen, the group outwits the pirates and engages in a series of gun battles that tilt the balance in favor of the loyal faction, turning peril into a careful maneuver toward safety and justice. Silver is captured, but escapes when the ship reaches harbour in the West Indies, leaving a lasting sense of unfinished business and peril for all involved.

Throughout the voyage and the island’s trials, much of the plot is delivered through the linking narrative spoken by Jim Hawkins, lending the tale a steady, faithful thread that stays true to the spirit of the original book. The adaptation preserves the core ideas of greed, loyalty, and cunning, while offering a clear, accessible retelling of the classic adventure.
